This module provides an overview of generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), including its prevalence in Australia, common causes and risk factors, and the pathophysiology of the condition. It highlights identifiable symptoms, diagnostic criteria and treatment options.
Key learning outcomes
At the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- describe generalised anxiety disorder (GAD)
- understand the impact of GAD in Australia
- understand risk factors and common causes for GAD
- identify symptoms of GAD
- describe the diagnostic criteria for GAD as outlined by the DSM-V (2013)
- suggest common treatment strategies for GAD including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
