The purpose of clinical supervision is to support mental health nurses’ professional growth, learning, self-awareness and critical reflection on practice to ensure safe and effective care is provided to patients. This module aims to introduce mental health nurses to the theoretical and practical components of clinical supervision. Other nurses and midwives may also benefit from this module. The module comprises an educational presentation and video of the ‘What’ model of structured reflection in practice, followed by a short quiz and additional training resources.

Key learning outcomes

The module aims to increase participants’ knowledge and understanding of:

  1. Theoretical concepts that underpin clinical supervision
  2. What clinical supervision is and what it is not
  3. The clinical supervision relationship
  4. ‘The What’ clinical supervision model in practice.
